Swimmers rely on technique, strength, and endurance to propel themselves down the lane lap after lap. Neuropriming with Halo Sport improves the rate that the brain acquires physical skill and technique, giving swimmers the ability to more quickly hone their turns, underwaters, pull, and recovery. The strength of a swimmer's pull comes not only from muscle composition, but also the strength of the neural signals that reach them. Halo Sport increases strength and power by accelerating how the brain learns to send stronger signals to the muscles. Maintaining these stronger signals over the course of a set is the key to maximizing a swimmer’s performance.
Halo Sport can improve swimming endurance by helping the brain learn to better manage fatigue and by assisting in the transfer of rhythmic motor patterns into more efficient neural circuits. Training these mechanisms in the brain allows swimmers to maintain their maximal exertion level through the last lap. Swimmers get the most out of Halo Sport by using it before technique-based speed drills and race-pace sets to improve their efficiency, consistency, and tolerance at and above race speed.
Using Halo Sport is all about timing. A training session with Halo consists of 20 minutes of Neuropriming (with the headset on), followed by an additional 60 minutes of hyperplasticity or "hyperlearning":
The brain best responds to athletic training during the 60-minute hyperplasticity period following the Neuropriming session, so we recommend that swimmers complete the 20-minute Legs, Core, & Arms Neuropriming session during the last 20 minutes of dryland warm up or just before jumping in the pool. The best warm ups include exercises that not only ready the muscles you'll be using, but also allow you to warm up the brain through movements that are similar to or derivatives of your upcoming practice. After completing the Neuropriming session, you can take off Halo Sport and you’re ready to train (note that Halo Sport is not waterproof).
By stimulating the motor cortex during training, Halo Sport maximizes the value of each stroke repetition - which allows swimmers to more optimally refine muscle memory. This means quicker mastery over pacing, technique, and overall swimming performance.
